Hiring the perfect caterer requires a little research an effort on your part. But in the end, it can pay off nicely in the form a well planned and memorable event for you and more importantly, your guests.
Start by doing some homework asking family, friends or colleagues at work if they have used a caterer recently. Maybe your company has a Marketing or Events Department which may have used a caterer for an event. A referral is always a great source.
Once you’ve narrowed it down to a few companies, view their websites. Any reputable caterer should have a website with menus and information that can help you make a decision. Photos help but remember, food can look great and not be palatable.
Check their social media outlets. Do they have Yelp reviews, how many and what is the overall tone of the feedback. These are patrons and guests who have experienced the food and service first hand so their viewpoint can be valuable.
Look and see what Venues they currently work with and call for referrals to see how their events have gone. Most event professionals will be happy to provide some insight. Look at the caterers community involvement, are they members of the local Chamber(s) of Commerce.
Finally, call them, speak to a planner or staff member to get a feel of how they conduct business to see if they may be a fit for you. Should you decide to move forward and receive a proposal for your event, request a tasting. For Weddings, Corporate or Holiday Parties, Bar/Bat Mitvah’s, a reputable, professional caterer will invite you in for a tasting of your menu selections. Not only because they care about your compleete satisfaction but they are proud of their product, the food they create.
