With the holiday break from school approaching, here’s an inexpensive and fun way to get kids to include nutrient rich vegetables in their diets.
Smoothies! The smoothie is a great way to accomplish this. Our version is packed with fruits and veggies and is also super easy to make. Let’s try kale, a nutrient dense super food that you’d be hard pressed to get most kids to eat. Here’s what you’ll need to slip some kale in their diet:
• A handful of kale leaves (washed)
• Frozen strawberries
• One banana
• 1 cup almond milk
Toss everything into a blender and mix until smooth. The nice thing is that when you use frozen fruit, you don’t need to add any ice. The fruit makes the smoothie rich and thick without watering it down.
Smoothies are quick and easy to make and can be a great alternative for breakfast. Just blend everything up, pour it into a travel mug, and you can be out the door just like that! Plus, if you let kids help with adding the fruit or the milk, they are more likely to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
